REGULATIONS

INTRODUCTION

Barcelona City Council announces the celebration of the BCN Sports Film 2012 – The Third Edition of the BARCELONA INTERNATIONAL FICTS FESTIVAL, which forms part of the WORLD FICTS CHALLENGE 2012. The event is hosted by the Barcelona Sports Institute with support from the Spanish Olympic Committee, the Spanish Council for Sports and is sponsored by FICTS – Fédération Internationale de Cinéma et Télévision Sportifs.

The BCN Sports Film – 2012 is organised by the Barcelona Olympic Foundation with the collaboration of Nikita Distribution and will be held in Barcelona from 10th – 12th May 2012.

This, third, edition of the Festival will be competitive.

As a complement to, and to run simultaneously with, to the public sessions, the BCN Sports-Film 2012 Organising Committee will host an on-line OFF-FESTIVAL to be screened by Sportsfilm.tv (www.sportsfilm.tv).

These Rules & Regulations have been approved by the BCN Sports-Film – 2012 Organising Committee.

AIMS

One of the principal objectives of BCN Sports-Film – 2012 is to bring the general public into contact with sports-orientated audiovisual content and the values that they represent. Whilst offering the media, film directors, producers and specialised distributors a meeting place in which they can exchange views and information.

CONTENT

The BCN Sports-Film – 2012 is open to all those productions in which the principal subject matter is that of sport in all its forms and disciplines.

Genres included: animated films, documentaries, journalistic, fiction and experimental from shorts to feature length films.

GENERAL RULES

BCN Sports Film will admit all films not previously exhibited and produced from January 2010.

Maximum length is 120 minutes.

BCN Sports-Film – 2012 is open to both professional and independent productions.

Each producer may present as many films as he wishes as long as they comply with all other regulations.

BCN Sports-Film – 2012 may programme non-competing films of general interest whatever their date of production.

Your taking part in BCN Sports-Film – 2012 implies your total acceptance of these regulations.

JURY

The BCN Sports Film – 2012 Organising Committee will appoint the official Festival jury.

The BCN Sports-Film – 2012 jury will comprise five members drawn from the worlds of sport, cinema, audiovisual production and culture. All their decisions and verdicts are final and without recourse.

PRIZES

Selected Films will be competing for:

  • The City of Barcelona Amphora for the best film.
  • The City of Barcelona Award for the best Catalan production.
  • The City of Barcelona Award for the best adventure sports film.
  • The City of Barcelona Award for the best sport and solidarity film.
  • The City of Barcelona Award for the best fiction film.
  • The City of Barcelona Award for the best documentary.
  • The City of Barcelona Award for the best short.
  • The City of Barcelona Award for the best animated film.
  • The City of Barcelona Award for the best journalistic film.

The BCN Sports-Film – 2012 official jury may make as many special awards as they deem fit.

Festival sponsors may endow other awards with prizes in cash or kind.

The City of Barcelona Amphora for the best film and the Jury's Special Award are endowed with a prize of two nights bed and breakfast at a hotel for the BCN Sports Film 2012 closing ceremony. The Festival will be responsible for transport to and from the airport and hotel.

All other awards are endowed with one night at the hotel in the same conditions including transport from the airport to the hotel.

Winners resident in Barcelona or its Metropolitan Area and those unable to attend the ceremony will receive a cheque for € 500 in the case of Best Film and Jury's Award, and € 250 for all other awards.

INSCRIPTIONS

Inscription to the BCN Sports-Film – 2012 is free.

Inscriptions will be accepted from 5th December 2011 till 15th March 2012, both inclusive.

To participate in the BCN Sports Film – 2012 selection process, please:

- Complete the on-line inscription form which can be found at www.bcnsportsfilm.org/en/register.php

- Deliver the material specified in the form.

- Send 2 DVDs of the participating production to:

WORKS SELECTED

You will notified by e-mail if your production has been selected for the BCN Sports Film – 2012 official competition.

Films selected to compete shall de sent in one of the following digital formats: (H264 1920 X 1080 25 fps; H264 1280 X 720 25 fps; H264 720X576 25fps ANAMORPHIC) or to the ftp that will be activated by the organisation after 16th March 2012 or ordinary post on a pen or HD drive.

Exceptionally, films may be sent by ordinary post in PAL Anamorphic format on a DVD or DVD-ROM.

Those films without subtitles in Catalan or Castilian shall be furnished without subtitles. The organisation will provide the subtitles in Catalan.

SHIPMENT OF COPIES

Shipping costs will be borne by the participants.

The Organisation of the BCN Sports-Film – 2012 is not liable for any loss or damage which may occur during shipment.

PROJECTION

Those films selected to participate will be projected as scheduled in the Festival Programme.

Those films not selected, may opt to participate in the on-line OFF-FESTIVAL that will be open from 10th May 2012 till 31st July 2012 on the BCN Sports Film platform (www.sportsfilm.tv). All promotional and commercial activities offered by the OFF-FESTIVAL as well as the pertinent contractual conditions will be provided to interested parties on or after 16th March 2012. Projection of films OFF-FESTIVAL are subject to acceptance of the contractual conditions and nothing will shall be projected on Sports Film.tv without the owner of the exhibition rights signing the corresponding contract.

Films selected to compete will form part of the documentary and video-graphical material of the Library of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation where public exhibition in the Joan Antoni Samaranch Olympic Museum, (headquarters of the Barcelona Olympic Foundation) will be strictly limited to educational activities and as a means to increase public awareness of the Festival.

Winning films will be eligible to participate in the final international stages of the WORLS FICTS CHALLENGE which includes 14 International Festivals. The complete list of Festivals will be available early in January 2012 on www.bcnsportsfilm.org. The winners explicitly authorise the BCN Sports Film – 2012 Organising Committee to provide their contact information to the Organising Committees of the other Festivals.

Participants also authorise the Organising Committee to partially reproduce their films in the media with the aim of promoting the Festival.

A selection of the films competing may be projected during any non-commercial promotional activities that the Organising Committee of the BCN Sports Film – 2012 may hold. These projections may be prior to or after the third edition of the Festival. Under no circumstances will projection rights be granted to third parties without prior, express, written consent of the producers or their legal representatives.
